Hovair Systems Aqcuired To Strengthen Air Film Movement Portfolio

British Turntable Company, the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of movement solutions for commerce and industry, has acquired Hovair Systems, a name heavily associated with the supply of air film technology to a wide variety of markets. The acquisition includes ownership of the Hovair brand name and all intellectual property rights; Hovair’s design and manufacturing operations, including existing stock and replacement parts will be transferred to British Turntable’s headquarters in Bolton, Lancashire.

The takeover represents the perfect fit to British Turntable’s portfolio, augmenting the company’s current industrial product range, which has been developed over the last 45 years, almost 25 of which have included air film technology. Customers attracted to British Turntable’s industrial portfolio include BAe Systems, Marks and Spencer, Rolls Royce, Ford, Jaguar, Georgia Pacific and Waitrose among others. With the acquisition of Hovair and its assets, British Turntable will now be able to develop further its leadership in the design and manufacture of movement solutions using its considerable expertise to advise on the most suitable solution to different handling or manoeuvring problems, whether that be mechanical or air film movement.

Air film technology is used widely in industry to provide solutions for materials handling processes as an alternative to mechanical movement, particularly in such specialist areas as the aerospace, nuclear fuels and automotive manufacturing industries. By forming a film of air between the load and the floor, the air cushion or bearing allows heavy loads to be moved easily and accurately, whether linear or multi-directional movement is required to aid the handling process.

David Houghton, technical director of British Turntable, comments: “We are delighted to add the Hovair product range to our offering, particularly as it complements our existing range so well. British Turntable has been providing specialist engineering expertise to a worldwide customer base since 1959, and this long-standing commercial experience, built on a solid and secure financial footing, means that we are ideally placed to take on the Hovair portfolio and service its existing customer base.”

British Turntable’s company ethos is rightly customer driven. David Houghton adds: “With our previous experience of designing and manufacturing with air film technology, our specialist engineering skills will enable us to offer comprehensive movement options both to our own and to Hovair’s existing customers; all can be assured of our firm intentions to look after their interests. As British Turntable is accredited to the updated BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 standard, the processes used to design and manufacture adhere to strict quality procedures, which can only be good news for all our customers, wherever they are located.”
